About the Item

A beautiful 20th century oil on panel by the very popular English impressionist artist Walter John Beauvais. This work depicts fashionable ladies walking on a promenade by the French coast. This superbly executed impressionist study is signed with monogram lower left and presented in a painted wood frame. Artist: Walter John Beauvais (British, 1942-1988) Title: On the French Coast Medium: Oil on panel Size: 23 x 19 inches (58 x 48 cm) including the frame Walter John Beauvais was born in 1942 near Windsor, Berkshire, England. He was a grandson of French artist and lithographer Charles Henri Beauvais (1862-1909) and son of Arnold Beauvais (1886-1984), artist and one time President of the London Sketch Club. His son Paul Beauvais (b. 1966) is also an artist. He studied painting under his father and after finishing his education, spent several years traveling in Europe. He began “serious painting” in the late sixties and was very successful. His paintings are often simple in concept but are executed in an open and bright manner, seen as typical of French Impressionist work. He exhibited in the USA, Australia and Europe and his paintings are in many galleries and major private collections.

"Marina in the French Riviera" Post-Impressionist Sea Shore Boats Oil Painting
By Lucien Adrion
Located in New York, NY
This work by Lucien Adrion is a wonderful representation of his Post-Impressionist works at the seashore by the French Riviera. Using a bright palette of colors, Adrion executes this piece with much attention to detail with many boats situated along the marina. There are palm trees and buildings placed in the distance, as we can feel the warmth of the sun contrasted with the cool breeze of the water. The boats are wonderfully executed by the artist in a very whimsical way that leaves us with an essence of enjoyment from that sunny day at the marina. As this tourist destination was a favorite of the artist to find inspiration and highly attractive subjects and compositions to represent, we can find several of his works like this subject and others. The piece is signed by the artist lower left and it comes housed in a French giltwood frame with linen liner and hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed. Art measures 19 x 23.5 inches Frame measures 27 x 32 inches Lucien Adrion was born May 25, 1889 in Strasbourg, France. He was a French Post-Impressionist painter, draftsman, and printmaker known for his depictions of the French countryside and beaches, as well as Parisian life including landscape, still life, figure, and landmarks paintings. He began his initial studies in Strasbourg as a technical draughtsman. In 1907, at the age of 18, he left his hometown Strasbourg and traveled to Paris, where he found employment in a large drafting company to work as a fashion illustrator. Adrion changed his mind upon arrival and rather than working for a large company, he decided to peruse his artistic career by traveling to London, Munich, and Frankfurt. As the World War broke out he had to go to Berlin, where he studied as an engraver with Hermann Struck, who was also the teacher of Marc Chagall. He remained in Berlin until the war ended and after the demobilization, Lucien would study engraving under Franz Ritter von Struck...
