About the Item
Artist Comments
This painting was inspired by Warren Keating's view from his balcony on St. Germain in Paris of an older couple in love, walking together arm-in-arm. He captured video of the pedestrians below and then used a still frame as reference. Part of Warren Keating's signature series of aerial portraits intended to express the immediacy of the moment. Pixelated and loose style of brushwork referencing video stills. Simplified, contemporary color palette.
About the Artist
Warren Keating's paintings start with documentation. He captures subjects on video from birds-eye views, digitizes the film on his computer and, finally, paints them on canvas in an active style he describes as Pixel Impressionism. He merges artistic elements of the 20th Century with 21st Century technology. Warren credits Futurism as well as Richard Diebenkorn and Willem de Kooning as influences in his paintings. Fun fact: Warren’s inspiration for this series came from a vacation to Paris where he photographed passersby from his hotel balcony in Saint-Germain-des-Prés.

About the Artist
Naoko Paluszak began her career by studying graphic design in Tokyo, followed by several years working as a designer, before switching to oil painting. Now located in the United States, Naoko continues to develop her style through different series of paintings that have varying degrees of abstraction. By bridging representational with non-representational forms, the artist seeks to stir personal memories and spark new narratives. “Art is about having a sense of mystery and drama,” she says. Naoko is also passionate about color. She mixes her paints based on the intuitive emotions that different colors can trigger within the viewer, and within herself.
