Wencke Uhl
Wencke Uhl is a contemporary figurative paintress living and working in Germany. Uhl draws inspiration from human beauty and the female form. As a teenager she wanted to become a fashion designer and her fashion-forward aesthetic continues to shine alongside the deliberate and differentiated elements that define the vivacious and independent nature of her subjects. Uhl still likes to “dress” women in shapes and patterns, but her focus shifted from the purely fashion-oriented to including elements of storytelling. Her works capture a situation, a moment, or an expression. Playing with concepts of identity and self-image they're reflecting the vibrant pop culture and mood of today’s transitional time. Emancipation, diversity, equality, and liberty are a natural and inherent part of her idea of how the world should be. Consequently, she is usually drawn to subjects displaying a certain independence, strength, and nonchalance. Freed of the male gaze, Uhl celebrates femininity by capturing images of powerful women that have their own agenda and that defy objectification and subordination. Her subjects are dripping in bold colors and lush patterns that exude a compelling and vivid dynamic. Uhl creates her paintings using acrylics, oil paint and decoupage. Experimenting with different techniques, texture, and patterns, Uhl demonstrates mastery of graphic lines, composition, and color theory. While her themes, saturated color palette and way of stylization employ the aesthetic vocabulary of pop art, her style also draws on realism, impressionism, illustration art and modernism. Thus, it firmly places her in the pluralism of contemporary art. Her work is sold internationally throughout the US, Europe, and Australia.

The Object of My Affection (Large Contemporary Painting, Framed)
By Guy Lyman
Located in New Orleans, LA
Artist's Statement: "I typically paint abstractly, but this is part of a recent series of paintings that is figurative and symbolic. They harken back to 80s neo-Expressionism - my favorite contemporary art movement. I tend not to beat collectors over the head with fatuous "meanings" of my work, but this one does have a subtext, a rather personal one. But you are welcome to read whatever you want into it."
Comes framed in a professional high-profile float frame.
“Lyman’s work evolves restlessly, with the common elements generally being deft and unusual color choices that balance assonance and dissonance, and vestiges of the hand and facture purposely left in the paintings. The negative space is often so meticulously worked that it’s almost as if the objects – usually simple shapes – are there as much to complement the background as vice versa. Despite the often bold colors there is an elegance about his paintings that prevents them from being either loud or decorative. "
Artbeit Zeitschrift
“His paintings are a refreshing departure from the current abstract art world’s seemingly endless parade of fields of color with scribbles providing form, a style that is easily mimicked and has become a sort of “safe,” accessible go-to. There are confident decisions in these paintings appearing as commitments of strongly delineated forms and unexpected collisions of color that give the work a visceral, confident and playful soul, increasingly missing from contemporary expressionist abstraction. They are the paintings of a real painter rather than a decorative artist.”
