About the Item

A striking image from Gail Potocki's Seven Deadly Sins series, Lust is personified through a figure encircled by caressing tentacles Inspired by Hokusai's 1814 woodblock "The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife". Symbolist oil painting on linen, 2016. This artwork is presented professionally framed and arrives accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Gail Potocki (b. 1961) is a contemporary artist whose work crosses multiple boundaries: she has been lauded by popular media (Huffington Post, Mother Jones) and pop culture art journalists (Juxtapoz, Hi Fructose), as well as celebrated in traditional art media (The New York Art World, American Artist). The paintings of Gail Potocki have been exhibited in galleries worldwide, as well as in notable and internationally distinguished institutions including The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Minneapolis Museum of Art, The Art Gallery of Toronto, and the H.R. Giger Museum in Switzerland. Potocki’s paintings have been on the covers of numerous books and magazines, and her collected works have been documented in the hardcover monographs The Union of Hope and Sadness (Olympian Publishing, 2006) and Freaks (Century Guild, 2017). A documentary on her creative process titled No Witness in the Slaying of a Memory is currently in production and is expected to be completed in 2019. Born and raised in Detroit, Potocki lives and works in Chicago. "Brilliant occult portraits from the Symbolist underworld of the 21st century. More than just paintings, Gail Potocki conducts seances on canvas." - Grant Morrison, author and psychic revolutionary "A really fantastic artist... It's refreshing to see a modern painter that has a classic, romantic touch and the skills to add a fresh facet of expression to the new period of Realism." - Robert Williams, legendary painter and founder of Juxtapoz magazine

Portrait of Friederike Maria Beer, Gustav Klimt An Aftermath collotype, 1931
By (after) Gustav Klimt
Located in Chicago, IL
Original 1931 collotype created from Gustav Kilmt’s Portrait of Friederike Maria Beer, oil on canvas, 1916. Published by Max Eisler and printed by Österreichischer Staatsdruckerei (Austrian State Printing Office), Vienna, in an edition of 500. In 1931, Max Eisler published the most notable posthumous collection of Gustav Klimt works to date. Using a complex gravure process, Klimt’s original oil paintings were painstakingly reproduced as collotypes on a handmade, deckled-edge cream wove paper. This world-class example of collotype captures the superb resolution and color-richness and ornamentation of the original 1916 oil painting. "Friederike-Maria suggested that Klimt should paint her in a Viennese Workshop dress; she wore these exclusively. She was also very proud of a fur coat she owned, particularly during the hardship of the First World War, and Klimt decided that she should wear the coat too, but inside out, so that the decorative lining, also by the Viennese Workshop, was visible. Klimt decided to make use of an imaginary oriental screen...

"My Best Friend", Oil, Hand-Painted Frame, Female, Pet, Rich Earth Tones
By WILLIAM GIRARD
Located in Detroit, MI
SALE ONE WEEK ONLY In “My Best Friend” Girard has captured a tender symbiotic relationship between the woman and her sweet pet. The entire piece swirls with the soft beauty and magical exchange shared by the two individuals. The frame does not enclose so much as enfolds the scene and its decorations are an integral part of the work. Upon close inspection tiny animal figures cavort in the air adding to the spell - almost like fairy characters from Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer’s Night Dream.” The jewelry is beautifully render as are the loving expressions of the faces of both the animal and the woman. The composition is filled with objects and figures but captured softly and in rich detail. The figures appear to be completely self-absorbed and the decorative elements about their heads could suggest the intensity of their thoughts and feelings. Girard was a Detroit figurative painter and teacher at College for Creative Studies, Detroit, Michigan where he taught for 30 years. Other College for Creative Studies (formerly Center for Creative Studies) faculty and graduates include Richard Jerzy, Harry Bertoia, Doug Chaing (currently director of Lucas Film), Stephen Dinehart (game maker, writer, designer connected with The David Lynch Foundation), Tyree Guyton (international artist), Herb Babcock, Jerome Feretti, Kevin Siembieda (writer, designer and publisher of role-playing games), Renee Radell, Philip Pearlstein, Charles McGee (nationally recognized African American sculptor of animal and dancing spirits), Philip Pearlstein (2000 Honorary Doctorate, Modern Realism style), and John Louis Krieger...
