About the Item
The basis of Beatriz's painted scenes is an exploration of the construction of reality. She represents this by analyzing all the things that are contained in a given space — and what links them. In her eyes, narrative sequences are thus born or constructed, connected to each other by spontaneous links.
Beatriz views her painted works as collages that she has pieced together to rebuild an everyday scene from her life. What has survived in her memory is ranked, and categorized. Maps, blueprints, cartography; any visual reference from the real world are the basis of her preliminary notes and sketches. That being said, she deliberately introduces a sense of doubt about the events of a scene, replacing, for example, a character with an allusion. Beatriz also works with the notion of instability, visiting the past and representing its uncertainty through new interpretations.
Beatriz Guzman Catena was born in Argentina in 1974. She lives and works in Paris.

- Champagne GlassesBy Inkyeong BaekLocated in New York, NYSensational paintings of glass vessels come to life in this dynamic exhibition featuring new works by Korean artist Inkyeong Baek. Demonstrating an uncanny ability to capture her subject-matter, Baek’s enchanting oil paintings glitter with a gemstone-like quality that truly captivates. The material characteristics of glass are fickle, often visually elusive. Yet each work on display beautifully illustrates, in stunning, hyper-realistic detail, an array of objects, from champagne flutes to whisky tumblers. Take the large-scale painting, Rocks Glasses; here we see an assortment of vessels arranged in a triangle– refracted light dances across the intricate terrain of cut-glass crystal, resulting in an ethereal azure-tinted glow that mesmerizes the viewer. In the work Champagne Glasses...Category
