About the Item

Sunday Lunch [2021] Original Still Life Oil on canvas board Complete Size of Unframed Work: H:50 cm x W:40 cm x D:0.2cm Sold Unframed Please note that insitu images are purely an indication of how a piece may look In this interior scene, Charmaine captures the midday light as it enters into the dining room and reflects onto the dinner table. Apple green light from the outdoor garden is mirrored inside as reflections on to the tableware and within the lavender stems and salad leaves. The green tones lift the painting and beautifully contrast the darker and more muted pinks and purples. The pink under colour peaks through the brushstrokes so as to illuminate the details and give a glow to the painting. Charmaine’s artwork largely stems from fascination with identity and “the exotic”. Charmaine’s mixed-race English and Pakistani identity is inherent to her work as she feels a pull towards both classically English nostalgic scenes, as well as towards her paternal home of Pakistan, a place that is contrastingly warm and romantic but distant to her daily life. Charmaine plays with these themes of nostalgia, the exotic, and with her own relationship to idealised landscapes to create idealised dream-like scenes, evidenced by her vibrant colour palettes and impressionist bold brushstrokes. Her work fundamentally portrays the joy she finds in the outdoors. She depicts both nostalgic memories of spending endless days exploring her childhood garden, as well as a pull towards warm “exotic” places of her ancestors and her travels. Charmaine wants her audience to find a relatability and comfort in her artwork, whether that is rose-tinted memories, or idealised dreams.

Celebration Roses [2021] Please note that insitu images are purely an indication of how a piece may look Celebration Roses is an original painting by Deborah Windsor. It features pink and white roses and rabbit tailed catkins stand tall in a white jug against a satsuma coloured background. Deborah Windsor has paintings available with Wychwood Art. Deborah grew up in the Kent countryside surrounded by animals and nature and started painting with her mother who was a portrait painter at a very young age. After art college Deborah co-founded a ran a successful ceramic design business in Portobello Road, London, designing, making and selling contemporary ceramics and undertaking commissions for well know media clients. Moving back to Kent in her thirties Deborah taught art and returning to painting, her first love, developed her still-life painting style. Deborah works in oil and acrylics building up her paintings with layers and washes to achieve depth and richness. Pattern, texture, decoration, shapes and colour are all important elements in her work. Working from life is vital to Deborah so that she can capture the essence of her subject. Jugs and vases spill over with fresh flowers and she will often paint part of one of her abstract paintings in the background to add an extra element to the composition. Deborah’s work features vintage china and fabrics from her collections which with her mainly gentle colour palette give her work a homely, peaceful feeling. Deborah now lives with her husband Vincent and their ginger cat...

Mary is a French artist and lives and works in Wailly, a picturesque hamlet surrounded by ponds, rivers and woods, in the North of France. Mary Chaplin for more than twenty years has worked as a self-taught professional artist, always inspired by nature and by the varying effects of light. She started her career by painting figurative scenes she saw around her in the French countryside.
