About the Item

This exceptional artwork is currently on display and available for sale at Signet Contemporary Art Gallery and online. Dani Humberstone's Lime radiates with vibrant intensity, its rich green skin emerging from a sea of black with luminous authority. The lime's rounded form is sculpted through expert layering of light and shadow, giving it weight, density, and presence. The surface glistens with tiny highlights and variegated specks, communicating freshness and tangibility. With a short nub at each pole, the lime hovers like a jewel-both ornamental and essential. The composition is spare yet evocative, relying on the interplay between light and negative space to evoke atmosphere. Humberstone uses oil on canvas to build smooth tonal transitions, capturing the delicate curves and surface inconsistencies with meditative precision. The green itself is not flat-it moves from acid brightness to forest undertones, creating visual rhythm. The painting feels not so much constructed as discovered, each brushstroke revealing a subtle truth about the fruit's form and vitality. Though quiet, the work buzzes with latent energy. The lime, often overlooked, becomes an object of introspection and sensuality when framed so carefully. Humberstone suspends it in an eternal moment before it is sliced, tasted, or consumed. Lime is a crisp, luminous meditation on singularity and sensation, balancing elegance with clarity in a work that speaks softly and stays with you. Artist Bio: Born in London, Dani attended a Rudolph Steiner school before studying fashion in Brighton. After which she returned to her original love of painting and drawing, freelancing for years as an artist before setting up a publishing company where she worked as the principal artist and designer. After many years in business, she left publishing and turned to painting full time. Dani was Vice-President of the Society of Women Artists for five years becoming Director when she stepped down. The winner of several awards for painting, she is regularly invited to exhibit at the Florence Biennale and has been selected to show at the RA Summer Exhibition. She continues to show regularly in the UK, Europe, Asia & the USA. Using principally the imagery of fruit in much of her work, her interest is largely in its metaphorical and symbolic use in the visual arts as well as strong links to language, examples include the Bible, myth and fairy tale, branding, popular culture, language, literature and as symbols of power, passion, and fertility. The use of traditional painting techniques, strong light and shade or chiaroscuro creates a sense of drama. There is a surreal quality and humour in much of her work but importantly there is also a respectful nod to the painters of the Renaissance and many influences from the Dutch Golden Age of the principally 17th century. Contemporary 'Still Life with Limes' Painting of glass, fruit and candle
By Paco Yuste

Contemporary 'Still Life with Limes' Painting of glass, fruit and candle with drapery. Photorealism at its very best! From his childhood he felt great predilection for drawing. In fact drawing was his favourite pastime. When he was 12 years old his parents moved to Brussels, and he joined an international college where his artistic interests for drawing and music woke up. In this period he passed most of his free time drawing...

Citrus III
By Randall Mooers
Located in Fairfield, CT
My paintings begin with a serious sense of play, both in the staging and the creating of the compositions. It is at this beginning stage that I operate under the Dadaist dictate that “anything can be art”, and at the same time I seek out a balanced and harmonious composition by way of line, shape, and color. I work according to my whimsy, sometimes seeking to assert some form of narrative however personal or ambiguous, and other times I am simply satisfied with the hint of a human presence. Once I have my compositions the paintings then very quickly become about work, a very labor intensive work that forces me to focus my mind and slow things down (which I feel is relevant especially in this day and age of high-speed everything). A great amount of effort is spent on trying to get to the highest level of finish that is possible according to my current skill level. For inspiration I have drawn from the past four centuries of object specific paintings, from the ontbijtjes (laid tables) of the 17th Century Dutch masters such as Willem Kalf, Jan Davidsz de Heem, Abraham van Beijeren...
