About the Artist
Artist David Thelen captures the daily life and landscapes he observes in his home and during his travels across the state of New York. When searching for ideas, he embarks on long drives along the scenic back roads of the Finger Lakes region to seek natural scenes and objects with compelling stories to tell. His artwork reflects his bold interpretation of the ever-changing human intervention in nature. David earned his bachelor's degree in Fine Arts in 1994 and has been on a continuous creative journey ever since. He ventured into illustration, woodcarving, and stained glass artistry. David works in his cozy and often cluttered studio, located within the renovated enclosed porch at the back of his house. In his spare time, David delves into drawing and sculpting, exploring its various traditional and digital techniques.

David Thelen
David Thelen was born in Western New York and has been living and working in the Finger Lakes region of the area. His strong family ties to the Catskill area give him a broader perspective on his home. It comes as no surprise that his artwork reflects the daily life and landscapes he sees at home and through his travels across the state. Thelen’s signature approach to the artwork is to paint the canvas solid black, and he paints in the negative space around the darkened areas. He creates his main subject by painting the space around it rather than painting the subject itself. Thelen lives in an old farmhouse that he is slowly renovating one room at a time, so most of his time is shared between painting, renovating and maintaining.

The artwork depicts a legendary destination celebrated for its nonstop wild parties and as a residence for renowned writers and actors during Hollywood's golden era. Built in 1913, the screen icon Alla Nazimova transformed this place into a hotel in 1926. Once standing across Sunset Boulevard from the famed Chateau Marmont, this historic location and epitome of California's Spanish Revival...

This painting is of a double redwood tree in a small town on the California Delta. I love this Victorian street at night and its combination of giant ancient trees and whimsical decorative lights.
About the Artist
Hadley’s subject matter is inspired by her San Francisco surroundings, particularly the city at night. Her glowing depictions of light sources are reminiscent of a blurred photograph or a bleary-eyed nighttime stroll. Hadley developed her love for art from her mother, a watercolorist, and continued to pursue her artistic career at a collegiate level and beyond. She now works out of a small studio in San Francisco’s Mission District. Hadley goes into her studio seven days a week with her Boston terrier puppy.
