While visiting Paris a few years ago, Faye was inspired by the way the late afternoon sunlight cast its long shadows across this busy street corner. "The warm dappled light seemed to make everything it touched vibrate with color," she says. As for the title, Faye mentions that her work has been compared to Edward Hopper. "This painting in particular is reflective of Hopper's style, with the couple cropped in the bottom corner, almost asking, "Where Do We Go from Here?""
About the Artist
Faye Vander Veer encapsulates the beauty of the everyday in her paintings. She oftentimes catches interactions, such as an exchange between a little girl and her mother. She once painted a work based on a young woman she saw sitting on a rock in the middle of a stream. Faye currently lives in Virginia and has been greatly influenced by ;douard Manet, Edgar Degas, John Singer Sargent and Claude Monet.
