About the Item

This original 1940 Modernist still life oil painting by celebrated artist John Edward Thompson (1882–1945) presents a striking floral arrangement in a richly colored, expressive composition. Set against a warm interior backdrop, the scene features a vase of red, yellow, blue/purple, and white flowers with fresh green stems, resting on a table draped in a deep red cloth. The vivid color palette and dynamic brushwork reflect Thompson’s refined Modernist style, blending post-impressionist influence with American expression. Expertly composed, the work demonstrates Thompson's mastery of color harmony, spatial depth, and bold form, capturing both the stillness and vibrancy of floral life.
