Mimi Jensen
On The Town: Uptown / restaurant / bar scene, oil on canvas

2020

About the Item

'On The Town: New York', depicts a scene from a night in the town in NY. NY, from a series of paintings that depict dining - food and drink experiences by artist Mimi Jensen, who uses bold colors to depict theatrically lit objects and/or places. "Mimi Jensen's paintings invite speculation into possible metaphors" – California Home+Design magazine. “On The Town: New York” is a meticulously painted American Realism still life scene that is 24 x 18 inches and features silhouettes of diners and restaurant goers haloed in candle light. Sophisticated and elegant with warm to hot tones including black and red with gold. Electric Exit sign is also reflected at the rear of the restaurant. Contemporary and modern. Clean and minimal. Mimi Jensen is a Still Life painter who is inspired by her ideas and observations. Jensen’s education and early work experience were eclectic – Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Speech Therapist, Technical Editor, and even an Airline Analyst to satisfy her desire to travel. Eventually she returned to graduate school to follow her dream of studying art. While still a graduate student in drawing and painting she was selected for her first commercial gallery show, which led to subsequent exhibitions and launched her professional career as a painter. She has exhibited widely in the U.S., has been featured in numerous publications – American Art Collector, California Home+Design, Fine Art Today, Professional Artist, Southwest Art, The Artist’s Magazine – and for the past 20 years she has been represented by galleries in San Francisco, Boston, Santa Fe, and other cities. Mimi is a California native. Although she has always lived in California, she has traveled widely, prompted by her wanderlust and curiosity about other lands and cultures. The objects and ideas collected in these travels often appear in her work. More than 200 of Mimi Jensen’s works are in collections worldwide.

Artist Jill Keller Peters is a colorist whose abstract color-field oil paintings communicate ideas through color. By juxtaposing pure and vivid hues that speak to each other when combined, Keller Peters choreographs rhythm and space through a poetic visual language. Her geometric abstract work is informed by keen observations of nature and years of realist landscape painting and photography. Utilizing a full-spectrum radiance of light, which is both, practical and inspirational, her traditional oil on canvas paintings delight the senses while celebrating light as the source of all energy and sustenance for life, itself. Here is 'In the Woods...

The Conversation II
Located in Greenwich, CT
Signed lower left Elizabeth Higgins (Canadian, b. 1960) Elizabeth Higgins describes herself as an abstract figurative and landscape painter. Everything around her serves as a potential subject, an inspiration to begin a painting. Fidelity to the landscape, the figure, or the still life is relative, as she isn’t interested in literal depictions; instead, it’s the abstract relationships of these shapes and colors, the abstract pictorial design that drives her work. Higgins’ paintings are rooted in the tradition stemming from Courbet, Derain, Bonnard, Matisse, Morandi, German Expressionism, and the Canadian Group of Seven (also known as the Algonquin School of landscape painters, 1920–1933). She is influenced by the work of her artist-teachers Paul Resika—himself a student of Hans Hofmann—and Robert De Niro, Sr. (1922-1993), as well as the paintings of contemporary artist Peter Doig. Her artistic evolution stretches across this continuum. It is the “in-between”, the hovering between representation and abstraction, that interests her, not the labeling effect of details; instead, she aims directly at the spirit of the painting—of making something come to life. John Goodrich wrote in her catalog essay, “Elizabeth Higgins’ direct brushwork and simplified forms suggest an energy, but crucially, reveal a painter who knows the power of color…” Elizabeth Higgins was born in Toronto, Canada, in 1960. As a Helena...
