About the Item
RAGINEL FERRET, André. Painter and draftsman born in Lyon (France) in 1936. He was a disciple of the Lyonnais painter Commarmon, and later worked for eight years as a drawing teacher at the Chambre des Metiers school in Lyon. In 1974, he settled in Barcelona, where he immediately exhibited individually at the Jayca Gallery. This exhibition was followed by others in Valencia, Mataró, Arenys de Mar, Vic, Olot, Palma de Mallorca, Nice, Sant Cugat del Valles, Terrassa, etc., as well as in various Barcelona galleries (Grifé y Escoda, Rovira, Almirall, Mayte Muñoz, Kreisler, Roglan). He also participated in group exhibitions and competitions such as the Barcelona Drawing Fair, "Maitres Contemporains" in Aix en Provence, etc. His work develops concepts implicit in the works of Post-Impressionist masters such as Toulouse Lautrec, in particular, evolving toward a fauve exaltation of color and a simplification of forms and visual resources that, in his later formulations, borders almost on abstraction. His subject matter typically consists of colorful café or music hall interiors and street scenes, almost always with human presence. He alternated between oil and watercolor techniques and demonstrated remarkable skill as a draughtsman.
