The painting depicts the outer apse of a church nestled in Wilanow Park, Warsaw.The central idea is that the Crucifixion is not positioned openly, but pleased deep within a dark niche at the back of the temple- withdrawn, quiet, dark, stuffy.
Through this composition, the artist expresses a desire to ease Christ’s suffering, to open a path for Him by removing the heavy, enclosing walls of the church - allowing space for breath, light and to resurrection.
