About the Item
Mixed media on canvas 91 x 116.8 cm (35.8 x 46 in)
Kwon Ji-an’s Humming Letter #95 is an immersive expression of movement and color, a vibrant extension of her celebrated Humming Letter series. This piece translates the energy of sound into a dynamic landscape of texture and emotion, embodying the artist’s signature fusion of music and painting.
The composition is a symphony of warm hues—lush pinks, radiant yellows, and deep greens—blending into a field of expressive brushstrokes that evoke the vibrancy of a blooming meadow. Above this textured expanse, a serene sky unfolds in soft blues, its surface enriched by Kwon’s signature calligraphic script, seamlessly integrated into the upper portion of the painting.
Kwon’s technique of applying paint directly with her hands results in a tactile surface, where every swirl and mark carries a sense of immediacy. The thick impasto layers create a sculptural effect, making light interact with the work in a way that shifts and evolves depending on perspective and illumination. The interplay of abstraction and suggestion allows the viewer to engage with the painting on both an emotional and sensory level.
Kwon Ji-an’s Humming Letter series has gained significant recognition for its ability to bridge the gap between auditory and visual experiences. Humming Letter #95 exemplifies this artistic vision, offering a composition that feels both expansive and intimate. The expressive texture and fluid movement make this piece particularly compelling for collectors who value works that convey emotion through form.
The painting’s scale enhances its presence, making it a striking focal point in any space. As Kwon Ji-an continues to establish herself as a leading figure in contemporary abstraction, acquiring a work from this evolving series is an opportunity to engage with her artistic journey in a meaningful way.
This mixed-media painting is in pristine condition, professionally maintained to preserve the richness of its colors and the integrity of its textured surface. The paint layers are expertly built, creating a depth that enhances the immersive quality of the piece. Its tactile surface invites close observation, revealing subtle details and nuanced shifts in tone.
Kwon Ji-an’s evolution from music to fine art has shaped her unique approach to painting, where sound and movement become inseparable elements of her creative process. The Humming Letter series serves as a visual representation of melodies and emotions, each work functioning as an artistic interpretation of resonance and harmony. Since her first solo exhibition in 2012, Kwon has continued to refine her expressive style, gaining recognition for her ability to translate intangible experiences into powerful visual narratives.
This piece is a compelling addition to any collection, offering a harmonious blend of expressive abstraction and emotional resonance. Its layered composition and tactile energy make it a work that not only captures attention but also invites deeper contemplation.

Kwon Ji-an, professionally known as Solbi, is a multidisciplinary South Korean artist who has made a remarkable transition from the world of K-Pop to the contemporary art scene. After debuting in 2006 as a singer in the group Typhoon, she gradually shifted her focus toward the visual arts, culminating in her first solo exhibition in 2012, A Person’s Way of Looking at the World, in Seoul. Since then, she has developed a highly personal and expressive artistic language that fuses painting, performance, video, and sound. Her work is rooted in autobiographical experience and emotional introspection, often addressing the pressures of public life, the impact of cyberbullying, and the healing power of creativity. Through “self-collaboration”, she merges her background in music with visual art, creating dynamic compositions that incorporate sound waves and tactile gestures. Kwon frequently paints with her hands, producing richly textured surfaces full of movement and emotion, reminiscent of the expressive qualities found in the works of Renoir and Van Gogh.
Her paintings explore the boundaries between existence and nonexistence, chaos and harmony, material and immaterial. Her signature aesthetic is characterized by swirling color fields, bold gestures, and a strong sense of rhythm, reflecting her belief in the power of sensory experience. In 2015, she introduced her interdisciplinary project TRACE, marking a turning point in her practice and affirming her position as an “art-tainer", a unique cultural figure who bridges the gap between pop culture and
contemporary art. In recognition of her contributions, she received the Arttainer Division Award at the 2019 Korea First Brand Awards. Today, Kwon Ji-an stands as one of South Korea’s most original and influential voices in the arts, continuing to push boundaries through works that are not only seen but deeply felt.
“If my paintings can touch someone’s heart and be part of their healing process, that would be amazing.” – Kwon Ji-an
