Signed oil on canvas landscape circa 1940 by popular French impressionist painter Alexandre Louis Jacob. The piece depicts workers loading wood onto a cart being pulled by a white horse. The painting is set where the River Seine and River Marne meet. Signature: Signed lower right and titled on original exhibition label verso Dimensions: Framed: 25"x29" Unframed: 18"x22" Provenance: Private collection - France Atelier 64 - Paris Jacob was a pupil of Eugène Claude. He was noted for his effects evoking the light of dawn and dusk. From 1899, he exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Français, of which he became a member in 1902. He received an honourable mention in 1908, a gold medal hors concours in 1914 and a gold medal at the Exposition Internationale in 1937. He exhibited there until 1950. He also showed at the Salon d'Hiver, the Salon des Aquarellistes, as well as in private galleries.
