Alexey Steele
Alexey Steele, born in Kiev, Ukraine in 1967, began his art training at an early age in the studio of his father, the renowned Russian painter, Leonid Steele. He furthered his professional education at the prestigious Surikov Art Institute of the Soviet Academy of Arts in Moscow under internationally acclaimed artist Illia Glazunov. He moved to Los Angeles in 1990. Known for his large-scale figurative works, Steele’s approach to figure is rooted in the Renaissance and Baroque periods. At the same time, his works possess a modern feel and intensity in their peculiar audacity of grand scale and grand themes. Selected Exhibitions Solo Shows: Russian Treasures and Two Generations of Artists: Leonid and Alexey Steele at the Fleischer Museum of Art in Scottsdale, Arizona; 2005 Outside Constraints at the Carnegie Art Museum, Oxnard, California. Most often I am painting those actual scenes recorded in history, as conflict and hardship shaped this young country. However, I also paint generic historical scenes of everyday life. This is one of those, when I have fun painting the personality of an engagement between man, women and horse...” —John Buxton...Category
