About the Item
Allen Butler Talcott (April 8, 1867 – June 1, 1908) was a prominent American landscape painter. Following three years of artistic tutelage at the esteemed Académie Julian in Paris, he returned to the United States, where he emerged as one of the pioneering figures of the Old Lyme Art Colony in Connecticut. Talcott's oeuvre primarily comprised landscapes, often capturing the local scenery in plein air settings. His artistic style was characterized by influences from the Barbizon and Tonalist movements, occasionally interwoven with elements of Impressionism. Notably, Talcott garnered widespread acclaim for his masterful depictions of trees. Tragically, after spending eight summers immersing himself in the artistic milieu of Old Lyme, he passed away there at the age of 41.

- "The Lake in Central Park, 1947" - New York City Landscape, CityscapeBy William MeyerowitzLocated in Rockport, MAWilliam Meyerowitz, originally from Russia, embarked on his journey to the United States in 1908 alongside his father, followed shortly by the rest of their family. Upon his arrival in New York, young Meyerowitz was already deeply engrossed in the twin pursuits that would define his existence for the ensuing seven decades: music and art. Between 1912 and 1916, William Meyerowitz pursued his artistic education at the National Academy of Design, with a primary focus on the craft of etching. During this period, he sustained himself by both lending his voice to the Metropolitan Opera and engaging in architectural drafting. Following the completion of his formal studies, Meyerowitz collaborated with fellow artists George Bellows and Robert Henri to establish the People's Art Guild. This organization was conceived with the noble objective of democratizing art by offering alternative exhibition venues, even within the tenement houses of the East Side. It was through this endeavor that Meyerowitz crossed paths with the artist Theresa Bernstein. Their union was sealed...Category
