Andrew Francis
We are pleased to sell works on behalf of Andrew Francis. Andrew is based in West Wales. He has been a full-time artist since 2009, following a career in the graphic arts. He works mostly in landscape painting and uses a variety of media, from acrylic and oil to collage and found materials. His subject matter is Wales and the west country, particularly his home county of Ceredigion. Artist Statement: “I am exploring the balance between representational and emotional depictions of landscape. The ideal is to be perfectly placed between images that are a factual record of natural environment as it appears in the early 21st century and the awe and reverence we experience when we observe it. Wales is the perfect place to explore this relationship because “landscape”, be it grand or intimate, is both abundant and inspiring. I would like viewers to see and feel the country in equal measure.”

- Au Lac. Large Naive Acrylic on Board.Located in Cotignac, FRLarge Naïve acrylic on board attributed to a French artist named Le Bris as the work was bought with another painting signed by the artist. The painting is presented in a gilt wooden baton frame. Naïve art is often seen as outsider art that is by someone without formal (or little) training or degree. While this was true before the twentieth century, there are now academies for naïve art. Naïve art is now a fully recognized art genre, represented in art galleries worldwide. The characteristics of naïve art have a challenging relationship to the formal qualities of painting, especially as they tend not to respect the three rules of the perspective (such as defined by the Progressive Painters of the Renaissance): 1. Decrease of the size of objects proportionally with distance, 2. Muting of colours with distance, 3. Decrease of the precision of details with distance. The results are: Effects of perspective are geometrically erroneous (distinctive aspect of the works, like the drawing of a child...Category

- "Abandoned by My Family in Chicago" Outsider Art in Acrylic on CanvasLocated in Soquel, CASurreal depiction of a figure walking though a city by Marshall Woodall (American, b. 1958). The cityscape is represented in outlines only, creating the impression of being lit up in neon lights at night. The figure walking through the scene is an outline, reminiscent of a walk sign. Throughout the piece, there are hidden faces in the buildings.
