Artist April Moffatt uses a dynamic color palette of vibrant green and muted blue grays to depict this rural landscape in South Carolina. Working over an initial base of peachy orange, these warm hues break through the top layers of paint to create depth and visual interest among the loose, expressive brushstrokes that already bring a liveliness to the work on their own. Moments of deep blues and rich iron-reds provide contrast to the otherwise lighter values of the composition. The landscape is serene and peaceful as the viewer looks out over rolling hills and at distant mountain ranges.

The beautiful upstate of South Carolina with it's rolling hills and many rivers leaves a world of endless greens and blues. Loose and expressive brushwork bring a modern touch to a tradition palette for a landscape.
About the Artist:
April is heavily influenced by the classical impressionists but strives to bring about elements of expressionism as well into her paintings. She uses color fearlessly and is always striving to "capture the light". April wants her paintings to invoke the feelings of her subjects and especially the wild feelings of being out of doors surrounded by the beauty of nature.
