Asher Brown Durand
Landscape

c. 1848

About the Item

This is a beautiful landscape done by the famous Hudson River School artist, Asher Brown Durand. Asher B. Durand began his art career following his father in engraving. He was one of the beginning members and founders of the National Academy of Design, along with many other significant Hudson River School Artists. He later became attracted to landscape paintings and began to paint in the Adirondacks and many areas in New England. Asher Brown Durand promoted the practice of painting outdoors from humble natural objects as the route to learning and refining one’s art as opposed to learning from other art or artists. He then continued to make many seasonal trips up the Hudson River with other artists. This painting is in excellent condition and comes with frame. The measurements of the painting with frame are 38 1/2 by 49 1/2 inches. As expected of Asher B. Durand, a truly beautiful example of a Hudson River School Landscape.
