Ben Fenske
"Boats Moored at Secret Beach" 2023 impressionist plein air landscape in NY

2023

About the Item

An oil painting of boats at rest as seen from Secret Beach in Sag Harbor. "Secret Beach" is the name Ben Fenske has given to his favorite painting spot in Sag Harbor, NY. A place he can go undisturbed to appreciate and paint the beauty of the East End of Long Island. Here, he includes the sailboats that dot the bay every summer. White forms scattered throughout the blue waters. A tan stretch of sand bisects the foreground, like a path for our eyes to find the horizon. Tall beachgrass cloak the left of the foreground, reaching out from the shade of trees just out of frame. A few clouds hang in the sky. Artist Bio Ben Fenske (b. 1978) although a native of Minnesota, and has been working and living in Sag Harbor, New York and Florence, Italy for the last 15 years. An oil painter in the spirit of the 19th and 20th century impressionists, he often chooses informal and contemporary scenes with an implied narrative. His work, which features brash and suggestive brushstrokes, delights in light and color. Fenske has been the subject of countless national articles, most notably the American Artist Magazine which included him as one of the Best 25 Living Artists in 2012.
