Brian Leo’s prolific practice locates itself somewhere between Grunge Surrealism, Post Painterly Pop, and the New York School. His immediate figurative mark-making engage unassuming and playful backgrounds which lighten the impact of the post-internet comedic drama which he unfolds. The artist leaves his pieces intentionally open-ended to encourage discussion into his coded language and allow viewers to come to their own conclusions in a heartfelt and genuine way. Seemingly innocent visual clusters akin to an infinite scroll of click bait, popup news, entertainment, and advertising create non-linear dreamscapes of our collective unconscious and the spectacle of 21st century American life.
