Calo Carratalá
Selvas Negras #1, Jungle series - black and white drawing, large size, diptych

2010

About the Item

Pencil and charcoal on canvas, diptych made of two panels 212 cm x 282 cm (right) and 212 cm x 374 cm (left). Selvas Negras #1 is a large-scale drawing by Spanish contemporary artist Calo Carratalá, taken from the "Jungle" series. This one-off work of art, signed by the artist, portrays stilt houses by the Amazon river, with a dense South American tropical forest on each side. Calo Carratalá is a contemporary Spanish artist, based in Valencia, specializing in landscapes. With a passion for traveling, he has visited the Amazon, Colorado, the Alps and the Pyrenees, the forests of Norway... Always armed with sketching pad, the artist sketches the sensations he obtains from the different places he visits. Similar to the artists from the romantic period, Calo Carratalá portrays a natural landscape which is both agitated and grandiose, inciting admiration and contemplation.
