Cara EntelesPurple Garden
About the Item
This beautiful layered floral work is by Cara Enteles. Her work is motivated by a fascination with nature and a concern for the environment. She splits her time between NYC and rural northeast Pennsylvania, where she keeps a large organic garden and has easy access to the wilderness. The ability to observe nature over time helps her understand how the natural world works which informs her work.
Surface and materials are a big part of her work. The paintings are done on layering of transparent colored acrylic sheet (Plexiglas) or aluminum panels. These inorganic surfaces provide contrast to the nature imagery. The surfaces, which are transparent or reflective, allow the painting to change with the light, mimicking the natural world. The transparent grounds are painted on both sides of the material, enhancing the depth of space in the work.
Enteles uses a combination of traditional oil painting techniques and silkscreen printing.
Cara Enteles' work is exhibited nationwide and in Europe and is featured in many public collections such as of PricewaterhouseCoopers, Microsoft and The Royal Caribbean Cruise line as well as numerous private collections and numerous commissioned pieces. Enteles received a BFA from Parsons School of Design and have also studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts.

- Coastal Series YellowBy Liz DexheimerLocated in Westport, CTLiz Dexheimer’s abstract landscapes reveal her fascination with the illusory and transcendent qualities of light and atmosphere. Both serve as a source of inspiration for her work. She is interested in conveying a sense of place that goes beyond any particular location. In her recent paintings, she has been focusing also on the intangibility of the ethereal, the feeling of limitlessness and forever in the far view. She de-constructs found man-made imagery as a point of departure, re-interpreting it to suggest natural light, reflection, what lies beyond. She has always translated everything into a more reductive state, regardless of her source of inspiration, eliminating anecdotal markers, distilling information to try to get at the essence, the idea of it She is drawn to water imagery...Category
