Chelsea Capriccio - original surreal London cityscape painting- contemporary art

2023

About the Item

This original landscape painting by Carlos Arriaga depicts a spectacular, fantasy cityscape scene, combing familiar Chelsea landmarks. Incorporating the stylish attributes of the area, Arriaga describes the boroughs best architectural features in this piece. The buildings are rendered with impressive realist detail, celebrating the attractive appearance of the area. Decorative tiles, characterful Parisian accents and the classic red brick that adorn traditional architectural monuments, such as the Art Deco inspired Michelin building, are made the focal point in this artwork. The artist infuses the scene with an illusionistic quality by rearranging the subject matter to create an impression of it from an uniquely interesting perspective and painterly composition. Combining urban and natural imagery, the artist employs a muted palette of subdued beige tones to create an idealised version of the popular district. This contemporary piece combines oils and pencil on canvas and is signed by the artist, ready to be displayed. Very urbanite, very much interested in Madrid. Also in New York and London, cities where he received much of his artistic training. His field of artistic work was always been around the experimentation between painting and photography with very different techniques and subjects. Since 1995 he made many big oil works on canvas, almost always reinterpreting his photographs of flowers, people and architecture. Photographer from a young age, he has worked for the best magazines and advertising agencies of national level and has made professional trips to more than 30 countries of the world. He also has been a director of photography of several documentaries and commercial films. He has worked in parallel with painting and photography until in 2015 he discovered the technique of oil painting on black and white photography, at last his two passions united in one. He currently lives and works in Torrelodones, Madrid, with his wife and four children. 1985 a 1993. Museo de Arte Contemporáneo. Madrid. (AEFMP) Annual group exhibition. 1995.
