About the Item
At sea. At rest. To imagine the feelings of peace and tranquility fully surrounding you. But then you observe the little white dinghy anchored to an even smaller buoy that, at first, you mistake to be a small ball of fire bobbing around as though the guardian of the dinghy. The light is soft and subdued, the water nearly still. You sit back to contemplate this phenomenon and come to realize that it is indeed a boat and dinghy, a boat and dinghy that are like you, finally at rest! This contemporary marine landscape is a minimalist piece packed with skillfully applied strokes of carefully and cautiously selected and applied oil paints. Born in Taiwan, China, artist Chieh-Nie Cherng began drawing as a child, attending Taiwan's leading art school, Taiwan National Academy of Fine Arts, under the tutelage of distinguished Chinese artist Yushuan Shao. Cherng graduated magna cum laude from Montclair State College after relocating to the USA in 1981. Initially trained to paint water colors she became known for her delicate florals, birds and stilllifes painted in watercolor. Cherng has turned towards oil painting in recent years, applying the same sensitivity as to form, color and light, resulting in an analogous skill level and equally compelling compositions. Cherng has shown her work in numerous juried shows and prestigious galleries in the United States as well as over seas. Her work sells to collectors internationally.
