About the Item

Christopher Witchall's "Breaking Wave" commands attention with its breathtaking portrayal of nature's raw power. This original seascape painting, crafted in oil on canvas, transports viewers to the rugged beauty of a pebble beach where waves crash with relentless force. At the focal point of the composition is a realistic depiction of a breaking wave, frozen in a moment of dramatic intensity. Witchall's skillful brushwork captures the tumultuous energy of the ocean, as swirling currents collide and foam dances upon the water's surface. Set against a backdrop of serene earth tones, the vibrant hues of green and blue leap off the canvas, evoking the dynamic interplay of light and water. Each brushstroke seems to pulse with life, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in the rhythmic cadence of the sea. Signed by the artist, "Breaking Wave" is more than just a painting—it is a visceral experience, a reminder of the untamed beauty that lies beyond the shore. Whether displayed in a gallery or a private home, it serves as a testament to the enduring power and majesty of the natural world. Currently available for sale at Signet Contemporary Art in Chelsea and online, this captivating work of art is ready to make a statement in any space. Artist biography: Christopher Witchall studied fine art painting in York (York School of Art) and Lancaster (Preston Polytechnic) in the 1970s and has continued to paint and regularly exhibit. He became a full time professional artist in 2010, after a long, successful and happy career as a curator, gallery manager and gallery owner. Christopher Witchall’s paintings are a celebration of the beauty and power of the natural world in stunning realism. He considers nature to have never been a more important and appropriate subject for art as it is today. His main preoccupations are landscape, particularly forest and undergrowth, and the colours and movement of the sea – a movement frozen in time between an ancient past and an endless future. The paintings are a combination of the artist’s passion for nature, a love of traditional painting techniques and a fascination with the photographic image, resulting in works that are both painterly and highly realistic.
