Eric Henri Kennington R.A. 1888-1960 , was an English painter, sculptor and illustrator, and was a War Artist in both the first and second World Wars. This painting, oil on canvas, signed lower right, is a view through the trees of Brunswick Square Gardens where the houses opposite, now demolished, was where Virginia Wolf lived with her husband Leonard 1911-1912 and E. M. Foster lived at 26 & 27 a few doors away 1925-1939. It is assumed that this painting was painted as a record of the houses before they were demolished in 1926.
