About the Item

"Door #1 (Reanimator)" (2017) by Francesca Reyes Original oil and pastel on wood panel; measures 8" H x 6" W x 1" D From the artist's door series, depicting doors that she has photographed mostly in Philadelphia where she lives and works. There are three dozen pieces in this series. This one is the first in the series, and shows a weathered rust colored building, subject to the elements and time. The door shows a broken window in blue and green. Francesca captures light and texture in the most appealing ways. Oil Painting / Miniature and Small-Scale Paintings / Representations of Architecture / Earth Tones / Figurative Art Certificate of Authenticity included Framing available upon request Statement from the Artist: "Through the lens of landscape, my work investigates conceptual understandings of habitat while exploring the formal properties of drawing, painting, and ceramics. My most recent ceramic series, Light Diaries, much like my paintings, acts as a love note to the city. These clay vignettes are a union of fragile objects and fleeting moments; sunlight kissing the cornice of a rowhouse, the subtle gradient of a morning sky, a window staring at a brick wall. While I move through the world and different stages of my life, I am continuously searching for places of respite. Light Diaries is an amalgam of observations and impressions from my surroundings. There are things that feel familiar, tugging at some tucked away memory, while others seem new and wholly unique. As a ceramicist, I’ve learned to surrender a certain level of control, allowing each clay painting to become an unexpected balance of intention and chance."

Urbex is the English acronym for urban exploration and is an activity that consists of searching for and locating abandoned infrastructure with the goal of visiting, photographing and conveying its contents, with particular involvement of methodologies from geography, anthropology, sociology to cultural studies. Her works have been in the past approached to the works of Anselm Kiefer (b. 1945) and Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1770), but in Gullotta's paintings the absence of color makes the spaces particularly ethereal, allowing them to be ideally lifted to new places and to new life. We often speak of a "brain drain," but in this case we are truly happy to be able to say that this is a "return," and an important one: an artist of international caliber who has decided to entrust her return to her homeland to Almach Art...

  • Light Catcher, Swimmer, Water, Work on board, Pastel, Blue, Female Figure
    By Carol Bennett
    Located in Riverdale, NY
Light Catcher is a figurative artwork featuring a female swimmer through the water. It is a Pastel on archival board. It is the first time in 30 years Bennett has created artwork with pastels. The Artwork is 32" x 40". It is framed to 40" x 48" with a white frame. This is new 2023 work by Hawaii artist, Carol Bennett. Carol Bennett spends all of her time surrounded by water, and a great deal within it. Her work is a meditative journey through both the water and through life. She is intrigued by how life continues to flow and change, being both in the moment and timeless. The viewer will experience being in a state “flow” – where the currents of the ocean suspend life and self, and the unexpected floats to the surface. Carol's work has been featured in many solo and group exhibits throughout California, New York, Martha's Vineyard and Hawaii including a 2007 solo show at the First Hawaiian Center at the Contemporary Museum of Art (Honolulu) and a 2018 group show "Making Waves" exhibit at the Honolulu Museum of Art. Her work was seen alongside April Gornik, Agnes Martin, Kiki Smith, and Pat Steir. In 2019, she was also featured in exhibits at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, the Hawaii State Art Museum and a solo exhibit at the Honolulu Museum of Art. She also just completed a 40 piece glass panel commission at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu. She has been featured in Hamptons Cottages & Gardens, Ocean Home...
