Harry Orlyk
Harry Orlyk is celebrated for his ability to capture rural country landscapes with Impressionistic brushstrokes and bright color palettes. Painting daily, the artist drives throughout upstate New York, stopping to observe and paint en plein air whenever and wherever a landscape strikes him.
Orlyk was born in Troy, New York in 1947. In 1971, after graduating college, he went on to graduate school at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Over the next nine years, he was influenced by several Nebraskan artists.
"Still-life painter Robin Smith taught me how to use paint without turpentine — to paint from the tube," Orlyk has said.
Orlyk also admits the influence of photographer Lawrence McFarland, who taught him what spiritual space was and how to emphasize it. Lastly, he credits well-known Lincoln painter Keith Jacobshagen with having impressed on him the importance of routine.
Orlyk currently resides with his family in Salem, New York, near the Vermont border. For anyone raised in the country, Orlyk’s Impressionist oil paintings spark a sense of memory that is at once shared and deeply personal.
Orlyk's work evokes a return to days spent as a kid, when you played behind Old Hap’s Barn or played hide-and-seek in the cornfield. If raised in the city, his paintings illustrate what you fantasized about living in the country would be like. With each changing day and season, Orlyk reminds us of the simplistic beauty inherent in rural, small-town America.

- Potato Barn (Impressionist Rural Landscape, Sun Dappled Country Road on a Farm)By Harry OrlykLocated in Hudson, NYImpressionist style en plein air landscape painting on linen of a sun dappled dirt road leading to a barn #5963 Potato Barn, 2022 painted by Harry Orlyk oil on linen, ready to hang as is 14 x 14.5 inches Harry Orlyk is celebrated for his ability to capture rural country landscapes with impressionistic brushstrokes and bright color palettes. Painting daily, the artist drives throughout the upstate New York, stopping to observe and paint 'en plain air' whenever and wherever a landscape strikes him. This painting is a perfect example of Orlyk's impressionistic aesthetic. Here, the artist captures a winding dirt road leading to an old potato barn, likely sited on a neighbor's farm close to the artist's home. A wonderful blend of luscious color is layered to create the foreground. The application of paint and color feel effortless, while the balance of the composition suggests the experience that comes from a lifetime of painting plein air and completely in the moment. Orlyk surrounds to teh natural beauty, its climate, and truly embodies the romantic truth of his beloved rural landscape. About the artist: Harry Orlyk was born in Troy, New York in 1947. - Vermillion at Lee's Ferry ( Plein Air Landscape painting sky blue terracotta)By Jane ChapinLocated in Cody, WYThis is a 'Plein Air" landscape Painting by Jane Chapin as seen in the viewing room exhibition on Silas VON MORISSE GALLERY. “Plein-Air” is the French expression to describe the act of painting in situ within the landscape, capturing the ever changing weather and light with tonal qualities, colour, loose brushwork and softness of form... The practice of “Plein Air Painting” goes back for centuries but was truly made into an art form by the French Impressionists such as Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, Alfred Sisley, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir who were advocating of plein air painting. Much of their work was done outdoors in the diffuse light of a large white umbrella. Another major proponent of Plein Air was Jean Baptiste Camille Corot whom Claude Monet considered as “The only One Master here”. Corot provides a transition from the sharp academic style that ruled in his day with focus on the natural world and the lyrical expressiveness of one's work. With her "Plein Air Paintings", Jane Chapin is part of one of the largest art movements in history. Her paintings carry human emotions. We can read her moods and feelings with places that carry deep remembrances for the artist that go beyond the descriptive. "My paintings grow from observing and interpretating light as it emerges from, surrounds and reflects on everyday people and scenes. They seek to remind us of the beauty of our common surroundings, regardless of where we are." - Jane Chapin Jane Chapin Painting the Land of the Free...Category
