PROVENANCE Private Collection, London Vicente March y Marco (December 27, 1859, Valencia - March 31, 1927, Benigànim) was a Spanish painter of manners; Known primarily for portraits and landscapes. He received his artistic training at the San Carlos School of Fine Arts, where he studied with Francisco Domingo Marqués. In 1876, he competed in a competition for a scholarship to study in Rome and came in second place. As a result, his teacher, Domingo, encouraged him to go to Rome anyway, if he could. After several years of teaching at the School, this was accomplished in 1887, when he and a friend were able to go there at their own expense. Once in Rome, they found a place in the workshops of the Palazzo Patrizi on Via Margutta, where they shared a studio with other Spanish artists (mostly Valencian), among them Salvador Sánchez...
