Charming painting by the highly regarded painter, Henri Miloch. It depicts an old studio in a timbered building. Miloch did not sign this one but inscribed the location verso. Rue Alain Chartier in the 15eme arrondissement of Paris has mostly now been rebuilt with modern apartment blocks - but it did house at least one artist's studio there. This work forms part of a collection we currently hold by Miloch. This one is undated but the body of Parisian work we have by this artist was dated in most cases, with this style, from the later post-war part of the 1940's....mainly around 1948. There is Canson and Montgolfier Lavis B paper manufacturer blindstamp in the lower right corner of the sheet.
Henri Miloch was born in Trieste (Italy) in 1898 but studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and was a member of the Society of French Artists. His life and work was very much centred in Brittany, in north west France, much of his work portrays Breton maritime life in the various ports, and local town observations, especially in the Concarneau area where he worked and exhibited for much of his artistic career. From 1959 he also had a workshop in Tours (Val de Loire).

The sheet has very shallow minor indentations, not visible in the image but can be seen on the back of the sheet.
Minor toning and marks to the sheet around the edges and sky area.
