A small house with a red roof is nestled in among a grove of tall eucalyptus trees. The trees have a pink and purple glow about them, implying that a bright sunset is taking place behind the viewer. Signed "H. Goode" in the lower right corner. Presented in a vintage bronze-colored frame. Frame size: 28"H x 33"W Canvas size: 23"H x 28"W Henry B. Goode (Hungarian-American, 1882-1966) was born in Budapest, Hungary. He began painting boats sailing the blue Danube in Budapest at the age of 4-1/2. His art education continued in Budapest, Paris and New York. Goode immigrated to the United States as a teenager and settled in New York, eventually he played cello in the New York Philharmonic orchestra with Victor Herbert; he also became prominent in the field of dress design. Goode moved to California in 1922, where he began to focus on landscape paintings, as well as pen and inks of the classic silent screen and early stars of the 1930s and 1940s.
