Jay Jensen
Spring on Little Round Top, Oil Painting

2019

About the Item

Artist Comments
Jay Jensen explains of this lush scene, "I visited the Gettysburg battlefield in April and the timing was perfect. In that part of the country, there are lots of flowering trees, particularly dogwood and a pink flower producing variety called redbud, and they were peaking on Little Round Top that day. Little Round Top was the scene of the most savage carnage during the second day of fighting July 2, 1863."

About the Artist
Jay Jensen enjoys capturing the unique magic of a dramatic sky or the late afternoon light. He currently lives in Canada and has been influenced by the work of Johannes Vermeer, Rembrandt van Rijn, Edward Hopper and Andrew Wyeth. Jay considers himself a figurative painter, but particularly loves painting ocean views. He does a lot of glazing which make his works even more luminous in person.

  • Little London Street, Oil Painting
    By Hadley Northrop
    Located in San Francisco, CA

    Artist Comments
Inspired by a photograph, artist Hadley Northrop beautifully captures the enduring charm of a little street that remains unchanged over the years. "There is something irresistible about lit-up windows at night," shares Hadley. Set against the cobalt blue sky, the lights ranging from cream to persimmon cast a warm and inviting glow to the scene. "I used to live in England and loved the ordinary old buildings."

    About the Artist
Hadley’s subject matter is inspired by her San Francisco surroundings, particularly the city at night. Her glowing depictions of light sources are reminiscent of a blurred photograph or a bleary-eyed nighttime stroll. Hadley developed her love for art from her mother, a watercolorist, and continued to pursue her artistic career at a collegiate level and beyond. She now works out of a small studio in San Francisco’s Mission District. Hadley goes into her studio seven days a week with her Boston terrier puppy.
