About the Item
“Windows’ Foot” by Jim Banks is a contemporary take on landscape or floral painting. This 36 x 42 inch oil painting on Masonite is from his “Footscape” series – what you see when you look down in front of your feet. The rich color, illustrative detail, and interplay of the weeds convey the genius of the divine in nature. It is unframed, and signed on the back.
Through painting, drawing, sculpture, and installation, Banks pursues the idea of weeds. The “Windows” referenced in the title is from an outdoor installation of several garden beds and large planters. Banks fills the planters with dirt taken from abandoned areas around the city just to see what might grow. “Windows To Earth” is a berm 14 feet x 4 feet x 6 inches high bordered by logs and an old metal fence rail. Five panes of antique glass were laid on the berm, and the weeds grow up around the glass. One end of “Windows To Earth” is the designated “foot.” “Windows’ Foot” is from late September’s view of the “foot.” Banks is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.
