"Roses Among the Vines" is a pastel painting by Torrance, CA based artist, Joe Mancuso. This painting was created during Colibri Gallery's 2nd Annual Plein Air Paint Out and won third place! Featuring the lush green vines of local winery Clos LaChance, Mancuso masterfully captures the light of the sun coming through fog on a Sunday October morning. Magnificent white roses gleam in the sunlight along with the chartreuse leaves surrounding the flowers. About the Artist: Joe Mancuso is a plein air pastellist based in Torrance, CA. Mancuso is well known for the light in his paintings. His paintings are deeply influenced by the environment, especially seasonal changes and climactic weather. Mancuso creates his breathtaking paintings on location and though he may respond to a certain place or scene, his goal is to always make capturing the light his focal point. Joe participated in Colibri Gallery’s 2nd Annual Morgan Hill Plein Air Paint Out, where he won third place for his painting, Roses Among the Vines. Created by California based artist, Clark Mitchell, Gliding is an invigorating pastel painting of a sublime shoreside of a pond featuring an enigmatic array of greens, blues, violets, and oranges, with some palm trees, ducks and swans in the middle ground.  Growing up in the shadow of the Rockies, Clark Mitchell very early discovered a love of the natural world. Given a set of fine old German pastels by his father when quite young, he quickly embraced the medium for its ease of handling, brilliance of color and portability. He received a bachelor’s degree in art from Colorado College in the seventies and moved to San Francisco to continue his studies at the Academy of Art College. Through personal exploration as well as study with artists Albert Handell, Skip Whitcomb, Michael Lynch and Bill Hook, Mitchell has developed the talent to create both tightly rendered scenes as well as looser, more abstract suggestions. In order to fully immerse himself in the countryside he loved to portray, Mitchell left San Francisco with his partner over thirty years ago and moved north to the beautiful Sonoma County wine country...

Light Catcher is a figurative artwork featuring a female swimmer through the water. It is a Pastel on archival board. It is the first time in 30 years Bennett has created artwork with pastels. The Artwork is 32" x 40". It is framed to 40" x 48" with a white frame. This is new 2023 work by Hawaii artist, Carol Bennett. Carol Bennett spends all of her time surrounded by water, and a great deal within it. Her work is a meditative journey through both the water and through life. She is intrigued by how life continues to flow and change, being both in the moment and timeless. The viewer will experience being in a state “flow” – where the currents of the ocean suspend life and self, and the unexpected floats to the surface. Carol's work has been featured in many solo and group exhibits throughout California, New York, Martha's Vineyard and Hawaii including a 2007 solo show at the First Hawaiian Center at the Contemporary Museum of Art (Honolulu) and a 2018 group show "Making Waves" exhibit at the Honolulu Museum of Art. Her work was seen alongside April Gornik, Agnes Martin, Kiki Smith, and Pat Steir. In 2019, she was also featured in exhibits at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, the Hawaii State Art Museum and a solo exhibit at the Honolulu Museum of Art.
