About the Item
Maine Snowfall (Traditional Plein Air Landscape Painting, Winter Scene) by Judy Reynolds
Oil on canvas, 14 x 11 inches, silver frame
Most people choose to visit Maine during the summertime, when it is a temperate "Vacationland," but this framed oil panting by Judy Reynolds places the viewer amid a snowy rural scene. A nearby structure promises warmth and shelter; meanwhile, the cloudy sky above it communicates that evening is setting in and temperatures are headed south. The landscape is painted in a tradition manner, with clear inspiration drawn from the Hudson River School of painters. The painting is framed in a simple, sleek silver frame.
A hushed harmony permeates the paintings of Judy Reynolds, whose handling of color quietly implies an underlying fantasy in the real. Much like the artists of the Hudson River School, Reynolds condenses multiple aspects of a landscape into one terrific instant frozen in time. The viewer is tag-teamed by sunlight and a biting cold in “Winter Cornfield” as readily as they are intoxicated by the humid romance of a summer night in “Marsh Moon” — a testament to the artist’s ability to evoke sensory experiences with her paintbrush.
A statement from the artist:
Primarily self-taught, I’ve created landscapes and still-life paintings in either oil or pastel medium for over 30 years. As a native of the Hudson Valley, most of my work is centered upon the Hudson River and surrounding mountains, fields, and marshes, but I’m also inspired by the dreamy marshlands in Maine. My favorite seasons to capture on canvas are late fall and early spring filled with sunsets, storm endings and foggy marshes, rich with the changing colors of the seasons.

- Lotus Number Four (Hard Edge Floral Still Life Painting of Lotus Leaves)By Frank DePietroLocated in Hudson, NY30 x 24 x 1 inches oil on canvas Inspired by close observations of the natural world and encounters with still moments that give us pause. Lines, shapes and colors encountered in nature, reveal the cycles of decay and regeneration that are life’s constant state of change. The work has a quiet, meditative quality. The subject is portrayed in a manner true to their existence in a specific time and place and selected based on considerations of visual relationships to formal elements of painting. Aspects of photo realism, hard edge and color field techniques are utilized to isolate the uniqueness of the subject’s detail, as well as emphasize flatness and illusion of depth within the two-dimensional space of the painting. About the artist: Frank DiPietro was born and raised in Scranton PA. He received a Bachelor of Art from Bloomsburg University in 1997, majoring in both Painting and Ceramics with a minor in Art History. In 2000 he earned a degree in Art Education from Moore College of Art and Design while continuing his studies in painting. Frank lived in Philadelphia for twelve years painting and teaching at several museums, art centers and schools in the region. In 2010 he and his family moved to Chester County PA, where he currently resides. Frank currently teaches painting classes and workshops at the Delaware Art Museum and Longwood Gardens...Category

- Early Morning St. AM 1987 (Impressionist Figurative City Scene by William Clutz)By William ClutzLocated in Hudson, NYEarly Morning St. AM 1987 (Impressionist Figurative City Scene by William Clutz) Impressionist Painting of A Man Crossing a Street in Manhattan in the Early Morning Sunlight Colorful Painted by William Clutz in 1987 50" X 40" x 2", oil on canvas This figurative oil on canvas was painted in 1987 by William Clutz as part of a series of works called "Crossings". These paintings were a study of NYC dwellers engaging in the simple, daily activity of crossing the street. Clutz discovers the extraordinary in the ordinary, simply by studying how the sunlight bounces and reflects off the human form. In New York in the early 50's and 60's,, abstract expressionism was the orthodox approach to art at the time. However, Clutz was committed to his personal style that focused on abstracted human figures within urban tableaux. Working in a context of artists who challenged abstract expressionism's popularity in New York, Clutz established himself as a significant proponent of abstract figuration. His paintings focus on human figures within the urban environment, often exposing the transfiguration of his subjects as they travel through the complex light of city streets or summer parks, as shown in two of his early works. Clutz's interest in working from direct observation of urban life was influenced by a long-standing interest in German Expressionism, as well as artists like Henri Matisse, Arshile Gorky, and Nicholas De Stael...Category

- Oltremare 6Located in Milano, MII am not afraid to define it as a metaphysical painting, - says Angelo Crespi - and right in the suffix "beyond" (in Greek "meta") also of the title "Oltremare" the intent to climb over the wall of the sensible and the real is revealed. There is another vein to which the new paintings of Nahmad refer and it is that of Romanticism, in the strong idea that art should represent the sublime, not the beautiful. The skies like John Constable, thick with purplish blue clouds (such as "Rainstorm over the Sea" of 1828 which anticipates by a century modernity), the stormy seas like William Turner, give the viewer the idea of infinity and vastness of nature compared to the finitude and misery of the human.
