About the Item
"Mississippi River (Sunrise)", by Kristin Moore, is a part of her 2024 solo exhibition, “Through the Bayou, Into the Garden”, at Ferrara Showman Gallery. Marking a transition from her previous work, "Mississippi River (Sunrise)" shows Kristin Moore directing her eye and palette towards the beauty of rural southern Louisiana, while maintaining her persistent sense of wonder and liminality. Kristin Moore says of this series of her work…
“Through the Bayou, Into the Garden” pays homage to New Orleans, a city steeped in history, lore, and romance. This new body of work serves as a love letter to a place where the past oscillates with the present. Viewers are transported on a journey across the landscapes in and around the city, experiencing its timeless atmosphere and captivating aura.
As a Texan, I've taken many trips through the lush bayous of Louisiana and into the vibrant heart of New Orleans. The title of this exhibition reflects these travels, symbolizing the connection forged between myself and the city over the last few years. Each trip from Houston or Dallas, traversing bayous and wetlands and into the historic cityscape, serves as inspiration for the diverse landscapes and rich plant life depicted in my work.
This exhibition celebrates the architectural diversity and botanical richness that define New Orleans. From the iconic Spanish architecture of the French Quarter to the majestic Live Oak trees of the Garden District, each painting offers a glimpse into the city's multifaceted identity. Historical cemeteries, sprawling wetlands, and hidden mansions all find their place within the intricate fabric of these paintings, showcasing the city’s romantic, complex, and inherently impactful essence.
Through this body of work, I explore the sensory experience of wandering through the streets of New Orleans as sole observer. Whether it's the intimate allure of the Garden District, or the ethereal beauty of moss-draped trees in Metairie Cemetery each piece invites viewers to immerse themselves in the magic of the city. I hope that these paintings serve as a testament to the city's enduring allure and timeless appeal, inviting viewers to embark on their own personal visceral journey.

- Marsh BendBy Dana ColemanLocated in Charelston, SCDana Coleman is a contemporary Gullah artist who captures the dynamic, awe-inspiring beauty of the Lowcountry in each of his paintings. His realistic depictions of his Gullah heritage, lowcountry lifestyle, architecture and landscapes draw in the viewer, creating a one-on-one experience that lasts a lifetime. He uses natural and bright colors to execute his contrasting and harmonious work. After earning an associate degree in graphic design at Trident Technical College in Charleston, South Carolina, Dana studied civil engineering at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, where he refined his innate ability to recognize and execute the fine detail that can be found in his paintings. Dana, who has earned several awards for his artistic talent, always has believed that “You can paint anything you set your mind to.” His artwork captures the most vivid and fond memories he has collected since his childhood “in the country,” just outside of Charleston. He shares those experiences with viewers so they can enjoy the diverse and vibrant culture that is unique to Charleston. His architectural background has helped Dana reproduce the history and beauty found in the Charleston area, from its weathered houses and structures to its beautiful beaches and marshland. With an ever-changing palette, Dana paints with various techniques, depending on the subject matter – and his emotional attachment to the subject matter. Applying paint with purpose and patience, he applies the strengths of each specific medium to achieve smooth, rich surfaces and crystal clear, vibrant hues. Dana’s artwork can be found in numerous private art collections around the world and has been displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. His work is a permanent fixture at the Sierra Leone National Museum and the Fort Sumter...Category
