About the Item

September Purple Haze [2021] original Oil on stretched canvas Image size: H:61 cm x W:76 cm Complete Size of Unframed Work: H:61 cm x W:76 cm x D:1.8cm Sold Unframed Please note that insitu images are purely an indication of how a piece may look In 'September Purple Haze' Lee Tiller has used a rich autumnal palette of burnt oranges, greens and yellows which are accentuated by purples and lilacs in the distant haze. He paints in the same tradition as the original impressionist artists, painting with an immediacy that recreates the sensation of a moment in time and evocation of place. Hidden with the brushstrokes are myriad colours that often surprise and confound, yet viewed as a whole, form a harmonious effect similar to musical expression. Having developed a reputation for painting the effects of light, Lee’s work has often been mentioned alongside the works of the original French Impressionists, employing broken colour to create beautiful chromatic harmonies. Like Monet and Pisarro, Tiller reveals as much with colour within the shadows as you would expect to find in the full radiance of reflected sunlight. This particular painting was inspired by childhood memories of playing by the Thames and the Kennet near his childhood home of Reading. 'September Purple Haze' will make a wonderful, calming centre piece for any room or office space. Lee was born in Berkshire in the UK and now lives and paints amidst the mountains of County Kerry in Ireland. His studio, “the yellow house” which is adjacent to his home is an old converted bothy (small traditional barn) that overlooks a glacial valley known locally as ‘The Pocket’. Lee says… “I draw immense inspiration from the West Coast of Ireland. Its untamed beauty provides endless contrasts to our otherwise orderly state of human existence. The natural majesty of the mountains with their dramatic terrain often leave an unsettled air of intimidation, but can conversely serenade you with a calming gentleness too. It is a magical place indeed.” “I have long been inspired by the 19th Century impressionist painters who explored colour in a way that was hitherto unseen. The immediacy of impressionism provides the viewer with their own intimate experience of place and time, and is very much a case of show, but don’t tell. I love that people can interpret my paintings in a personal capacity. “ On more than one occasion Lee’s work has been likened to Monet and Van Gogh, and it’s easy to see where his major influences lie. Lee’s paintings are collected worldwide and can be found in private collections throughout both hemispheres. Painting in oils, his artistic works cover a diverse range of natural history subjects from marine wildlife through to wild chromatic impressionist landscapes.

Attributed Charles François Grenier de Lacroix or Charles - François Lacroix de Marseille (1700 - 1782) as signed lower left on the stone “Lacroix”. The scene of the departure of nobles on a ship, somewhere among the Mediterranean landscapes at sunrise. Lacroix's sense of color and attention to detail are particularly impressive: the sea is calm, the sun is rising and as a soft pink hue begins to emerge in the clouds, the morning haze has not yet cleared and the air is clear and clean, large ship...

  • German Baroque landscape Settlement near lake 18th century Oil painting Signed
    Located in Stockholm, SE
Signed lower right for Johann Christian Vollerdt (1708 - 1769). The beauty of baroque scenery is visible in painting, an excellent perspective with striking effects of chiaroscuro. This distinguishes the work of German painters of the 18th century. In their paintings, they exaggerate nature a bit and go visually beyond the borders of the canvas. With the exception of one drawing (“River landscape in the Dutch style”), only paintings by Vollerdt are known at the moment, exclusively miniature river landscapes, which were very popular at the time. His earliest surviving works date from 1738, the latest from 1769. Oil painting on canvas, framed. Size app.: 34.5 x 43.2 cm (roughly 13.6 x 17 in) and nice original frame ca 46.5 by 55.5 cm (roughly 18.3 x 22 in). Very Good condition, usage age wear losses on the edges mostly; restorations, retouches; edge of canvas relined. Please study good resolution images for overall cosmetic condition. In person actual painting may appear darker or brighter than in our pictures, strictly depending on sufficient light in your environment. Weight of app. 2,05 kg is going to measure some 4 kg volume weight packed for shipment. Vollerdt initially received training in the private school of the copper engraver Paul Christian Zinck in Leipzig. After 1738 he began his apprenticeship with Johann Alexander Thiele in Dresden. Initially, he worked as a supraport painter. So he is probably the author of the 31 over-portals and panneaus in Oberlichtenau Castle, which Heinrich Graf von Brühl acquired in 1744, of which, however, only those in the garden hall have survived. From 1758 to 1769 V. painted a multitude of such landscapes, often pairs of pictures...
