Oil on canvas, signed lower right. Georges Arnulf est originaire d'une ancienne famille niçoise. Il est le neveu de Gaston Arnulf, ancien conseiller général, et le fils d'un ancien hôtelier niçois. Il fait toutes ses études au lycée de Monaco et au lycée de Nice. Après avoir suivi les cours de dessin et de décoration à l'École nationale des arts décoratifs de Nice, où il est l'élève de Jules Henri Lengrand, il est reçu en 1946 à l'École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris, présenté par Pierre-Henri Ducos de La Haille le 30 octobre 1947, il y fréquente les ateliers de fresque et de gravure. Il entre chez le taille-doucier Robert Cami où il continue son apprentissage du burin1, de l'eau-forte, de la manière noire. Il obtient en 1950 le premier grand prix de Rome de gravure en taille douce2 et il est missionné pour réaliser l'étiquette de la bouteille du Château Mouton Rothschild 19503. Pensionnaire à la villa Médicis à Rome pendant trois ans et demi4, il voyage et grave au burin l'illustration d'une édition de luxe des sonnets de Shakespeare traduits en français...

Avec cadre: 56x64 cm Alexandre Altmann, né à Kiev (Ukraine) en 1878 et mort en France en 1932, est un peintre russo-français de l'École de Paris, connu notamment pour son tableau L’inondation de Paris. Alexandre Altmann fait ses études aux Beaux-Arts d’Odessa1. Il quitte Odessa en 1905 pour Paris, où il trouve un atelier à la Ruche. Il fait alors la connaissance d'Emile Schuffenecker. En 1910, Altmann connaît une certaine notoriété à la suite de l’exposition de son tableau L’inondation de Paris. En 1912, la Galerie Devambez lui consacre une grande exposition. Stunning figurative landscape of the Mission San Juan Capistrano by Warren Eliphalet Rollins (American, 1861-1962). Presented in a giltwood frame. "Capistrano" lower right, unsigned. This is a study for a larger painting of the same scene. Image size, 14.5"H x 21"W. For many years Warren Eliphalet Rollins was known as the "Dean of the Santa Fe art colony." He was the first artist to have a formal exhibition there; it was held in 1906 in the old Palace of the Governors. He was a close friend of Carlos Vierra, Gerald Cassidy, Kenneth Chapman, Sheldon Parsons and most of the other famous artists who assembled in the New Mexican capital during the first half of this century. Born in Carson City, Nevada, Rollins was raised in California and attended the San Francisco School of Design where he studied under Virgil Williams. At the completion of his studies, he was awarded the Avery Gold Medal and made Assistant Director of the school. Following his marriage in 1887, he and his wife settled in San Diego, and it was during this period that Rollins became interested in the Indian as subject matter. In search of material, Rollins, his wife, and their two daughters, Ramona and Ruth, traveled through every Western state from the Mexican to the Canadian borders.
