Luigi Cagliani was an Italian Impressionist who worked in the first half of the 20th century. Italian sources note that he was active in Lombardy, which helps explain his penchant for lakeside scenes. He also loved to paint scenes set in Venice. Dino Bonari, a critic involved in the Society of Independent Art in Milan, wrote in 1944 that Cagliani's paintings were "delicate and moving," romantic in almost a 19th century sense. Cagliani's women, Bonari put it, combine fantasy and solidity.

Luigi Cagliani
Luigi Cagliani was born in Milano in 1910. As an Italian Impressionist who worked in the first half of the 20th century, he was active in Lombardy, which helps explain his penchant for lakeside scenes and also his love to paint scenes set in Venice. In his earlier career, Cagliani appeared as a painter of a clear romantic taste, whom in some way saw himself discordant with the posthumous teachings of Mosè Bianchi. With a modern accent of his own, and on the path of the 19th century modern European impressionists, Cagliani stands out as possessing a dexterous and acute style, softened by an intimate sentiment that envelops the figurative scenes by the use of a complex tonal values, with the prominent use of soft lilac and pink colors, then we find the figures executed with an agile move, as if the viewer was inside of a dream like pictorial composition accomplished with evident precision. Dino Bonardi, a critic involved in the Society of Independent Art in Milan, wrote in 1944 that Cagliani's paintings were "delicate and moving" almost like the feeling of a 19th century romantic style sense. The world of Cagliani’s paintings is achieved in an agile and wavy design, as Bonardi explains: ‘the artist starts from a natural pictorial instinct, from which the dominion of the sign and color moves, but obeys a fantastic evocative power whereby the limits of reality immediately merge and transfigure into dream realities within which the evoked poetic motifs which circulate with sureness of hand and abandonment of vision.’ Cagliani, exhibited at the Ranzini Gallery in Milan, where he presented a collection of paintings that offered a set of visions in which reality was perceived transfigured in the light of an imaginative inspiration. While his form remained bound to the Lombard impressionism style, Cagliani accomplished, with a robust sense of intuition, to grasp the art of painting on a tonal bases substantiated in a refined taste for color. Luigi Cagliani died in 1987.

- Orientalist Beach Scene, Chenoua Plage, Algerie, Oil On Canvas.Located in Cotignac, FRAn Orientalist beach scene of the coast of Algeria at Chenoua by French painter Gustave Lino. The painting is signed, located and dated bottom left. Presented in a plain gilt frame. A charming and atmospheric view of a day at the beach. The revellers are enjoying bathing in the Mediterranean, resting under their colourful parasols against the sun and exploring the far off rocks of the cove. The sea gently lapping against the rocks at the shore. A small row boat ready for an excursion. Lino has beautifully captured the feeling of joy and fun that a day at the beach brings. Gustave Lino was born in 1893 in Mulhouse, France. At the age of twenty, he went to Marseille, discovered Provence and the Mediterranean. He was already interested in painting and art from numerous visits to the museum of his hometown, but he had not yet followed any training in this field. In Marseille, far from home and idle, he decides, almost on a whim, to travel to Algiers, without really knowing what he will discover there. He embarked for Algiers at the age of 19 in 1912. He exhibited with his friends Romeo Charles Aglietti in 1914 at 'Herero' in Algiers. Unfortunately in 1914 in Corsica in Ajaccio, being of German nationality and Mulhouse being part of the German Empire since 1871, he was interned as a 'civilian'. He spent the First World War in the Isle of Beauty but spent his time wisely developing his artistic skills. He realised many paintings as well as the historical decorations of the Solferino Hotel in Ajaccio and the religious decorations of the castle of Malaspena-Massa in Belgodère. In December 1918, he returned to Algiers where he was a pupil of Georges-Antoine Rochegrosse. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1926 and at the Danton gallery, rue La Boétie in 1927. He settled permanently in Algiers and then in Bou-Saada. Back in Algeria, he took a close interest in the painting of Albert Marquet, which particularly seduced him and with whom he became a close friend. The transparent sharpness, this harmony of lines and tones becomes his ideal of perfection. He specialised in Algerian seascapes and landscapes, a colourist above all. Becoming an adopted member of the group called "Painters of Poetic Reality" (with Jean...Category
