Lumi Mizutani
Mu I, Contemporary Ink Wash Painting

2010

About the Item

Mu I is an ink-wash painting by contemporary French-Japanese artist Lumi Mizutani. India ink on rice paper mounted on paper, 38 x 70 cm. Sold unframed. In the Buddhist zen culture, "Mu" literally means "nothing" and is used in Daoism to mean "emptiness". In this series of figurative works, Lumi Mizutani exclusively uses India ink and water. The artist honors the nature of Japan, its bamboo and tall grasses. By their accumulation and juxtaposition, branches, sprouts and leaves practically become abstract motifs.
