About the Item

Mahjabin Majumdar - My Beloved Assassin - 60 x 54 inches (unframed size) Acrylic on Canvas Inclusive of shipment in ready to hang condition. This striking acrylic on canvas encompasses her passion for play between the man & his environment, delicately woven flowers and foliage with lost fossils of animals complete the interaction. Brilliantly executed the minute brush strokes leaves a viewer in mild amazement of its execution. Style : Her work is held in numerous international collections. In her work she juxtaposes memories of the past with the present through using a poetic artistic language. Autobiographical in content she seeks to dig into her own bank of memories and the unconscious realms to explore the hidden depths which exist there. As a consequence she unearths that which has been lost in time and brings it forth with a dynamic and vibrant energy. Particularly striking is her use of color, which works in curious combinations and contrasts. She usually creates this contrast by placing a warm color tone along with a cooler one, and as a result the surface has depth and dimension. The variation in planes keeps the viewer's eyes engaged, on the dynamic interplay between the past and the present, leaving the viewer trying to grope with the overall effect that is generated. She uses motifs, which belong to the world of flora and fauna and this brings an element of tradition in the overall design, but the flat, graphic background and strong linear contours evoke a sense of gravity that strengthens the surface. Her work is like a continuously evolving creation which is being woven from a desire to deepen her connect and to explore the unconscious and unspoken truths which lie in her experience and in the recesses of her mind. In Mahjabin’s words ‘the journey is more important than the destination.’ Her works represent her desire to venture into the forest of her memories and experiences and to call forth the poetry of her soul.
