Artist Bio: For over 20 years, Matthew James Collins has been working as an artist in Florence, Italy. Originally from Oak Park, Illinois Matthew travelled to Italy to complete is artistic formation after receiving a BA in the History of Art and Architecture and studying at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His initial trip was a epiphany that changed the trajectory of his life. Walking the same streets of the Renaissance greats, like Michelangelo, Leonardo, Titian and Veronese proved to be a constant inspiration. Italy is a magic place where art and beauty permeate the very cultural fabric of society. Collins returned to live and work in Florence, Italy in 2000. The opportunity to study in depth the masterpieces of figurative art formed a unique sensibility that continues to shape his work even today. He also sought out training from the dwindling population of master craftsmen that continued artistic traditions that date back to antiquity. His artistic magnitude grew to include fresco painting and terracotta, marble and bronze statuary. Matthew practices classical techniques painting and sculpture to produce contemporary and relevant work. He shares his acquired knowledge through his teaching studio in Florence, Italy. Not limited to a single genre his oeuvre includes portraiture, landscape, decoration and figurative subjects. An accomplished portrait artist, Collins regularly completes a variety of commission work ranging from corporate executives to small children. With numerous awards the quality of Matthew's work has been recognized by the National Sculpture Society, Portrait Society of America, Art Renewal Center, Art Laguna prize (Venice, Italy), and the ModPortrait 2016(Barcelona, Spain). His paintings are represented in the permanent collection of the MEAM museum in Barcelona, Spain and Museum of the Basilica of Mary Queen of the Universe in Orlando, Florida.

View from Chianti Farmhouse is Realist Landscape painted from life, searching for accuracy beyond physical appearance . This is oil on canvas with a custom made archival frame. • A Door to the Past, Deering Estate Stone House, American Dream, Cuban American
    Located in Houston, TX
On a summer morning in 1993 a 22 years old young came to Florida from a small old town in the central area of Cuba called Santa Clara. In his bag, he brought no more than two valuable things, his worn-out brushes and a great dream. The dream to one day become a professional artist in this new land that welcomed him with open arms. Captivated by his love for the beauty of the Landscapes, his last works are what he sees even in the most common scenes: the close relationship of life and who we are with the natural world around us that asks us to respect and care for it. Deering Estate Stone House Stone House was designed by Phineas Paist and was completed in 1922. It has 18 inch poured concrete walls, limestone, coffered ceilings and copper clad and brass doors. After the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, Charles Deering was nervous of what fire could do. He decided to build his Stone House without a stove. There was a kitchen that housed refrigeration cabinets and storage but the cooking was done in the Richmond Cottage. It was his trepidation of fire that had him asking the architect/designer for the 18 inch concrete walls and brass doors. He also added an elevator to the house which was very forward thinking for 1922.[15] The large wine cellar that is located on the first floor was not discovered until after Hurricane Andrew. It was very well hidden behind built-in cabinetry. Hurricane Andrew flooded the first floor and damaged much of it. It was during the clean up process that it was discovered. He intended the house to be used as a showcase for his art collection and books. Charles Deering was born on July 31, 1852 in Paris, Maine.[2] He was the son of William Deering, founder of Deering Harvester Company, and brother of millionaire industrialist James Deering. Deering is remembered as an American businessman and philanthropist. In 1873 Deering graduated from the United States Naval Academy and served as an officer in the Navy until 1881. Deering then became secretary of his father's company, which merged with McCormick Harvesting Machine Company and became International Harvester...
