The Staircase - 1987 Original Oil on Masonite
Original 1987 oil painting depicting a staircase behind a brick archway by Miriam Ragan (American, 1930-2014). The viewer looks onward toward the staircase, plants can be seen on the ceiling and in pots nearby. A window shade appears open to the right of the staircase. Warm hues of browns and greens make up this vintage piece.
Signed "'87 Miriam Ragan" lower left.
Presented in a wood frame.

Miriam (Brinkman) Ragan (American, 1930-2014) was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. From a young age she took interest in painting, watching her father draw in his spare time. Miriam Ragan worked as a copywriter for a newspaper until she had the opportunity to study with famous artists John Campbell, Edgar Whitney, Milford Zornes, and Chow Chian-Chiu of Hong Kong. Ragan then started touring the Louisiana swamplands, where she gained inspiration for her artwork. Her work focuses primarily on landscapes, and still life. Miriam Ragans paintings can be seen in galleries across the country.
