Nan Hass Feldman
"Little Fish in a Big Pond", abstract, pinks, golds, pigment stick, oil painting

2013

About the Item

Nan Hass Feldman’s “Little Fish in a Big Pond” is a 12 x 12 x 1.5 inch textured, rich oil painting of a close-up view looking down into a lovely lily pond full of fish and floating leaves. This pigment stick oil painting is multi-layered but subtle with colors of cream, pinks, yellows, golds, touches of blue. The artist describes her style as Fauve Expressionist, a loose, painterly, recognizable subject created with emotional subjective color. This intimate painting is initialed on the front bottom right and is unframed with painted solid sides. Nan Hass Feldman has been a full-time artist for over 40 years. Her works, whether Landscapes or Interiors are interpreted through her screen of selective seeing, playful detail, heightened color, and bits of fantasy. Nan’s work is always vibrantly colorful, intricate, enlivening, and upbeat. For Nan, art really is about enhancing and interpreting reality to create a more optimistic and joyous world. Nan’s work has been collected in seven countries, holds a BFA, MA, MFA degrees, teaches in three art museums, runs international painting programs, and runs the Artist Loft on a cruise ship. Feldman is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.

  • The Orange Wall of San Miguel #2
    By Carole Garland
    Located in Palm Desert, CA
A quiet street of San Miguel de Allende in Mexico is the subject of this painting by Carole Garland. An elderly woman cautiously makes her way along a narrow path using a tree to lend support. The orange wall provides much needed shade in the afternoon heat. Light seeps through the branches of a colorful bougainvillea patterning the orange bulwark. Artist Carole Garland who studied art in both San Miguel de Allende and Mexico City shares her appreciation of the simplicity of this quiet backstreet in a Mexican town. A special moment in time is brought to life. Garland uses the scumbling technique and a paint laden palette knife to achieve texture and depth in the leaves, the branches and the rough pavement of the street. This oil on wood panel is 16"x20" and its natural wood sides serve as a frame. The painting is wired for easy hanging. This is a stand-alone artwork but was conceived as a companion piece to Orange Wall of San Miguel #1. Together they are 16"x 40". Artist Carole Garland has appeared in numerous venues throughout Southern California, including several juried California Art Club exhibits and individual shows at TAG Gallery in Los Angeles. Her work has recently appeared at the West Los Angeles College Art Gallery; the Rose Cafe, Venice; Topanga Canyon Art...
