Artist Comments
A panoramic beach scene from the ocean's edge, with colorful clouds above quiet waves. "This painting is about the sky, so I focused energy above the horizon with less detail below," shares artist Nancy Hughes Miller. "The clouds are subtle but they create drama, catching the fiery colors of the sunset. There is a sublime glow and warmth seen and felt all around as daylight diminishes."
About the Artist
Reflected in Nancy Hughes Miller’s paintings are the coastal and rural environments of southeastern North Carolina, her birthplace, where she still spends much of her time. As a child, Nancy’s primary education did not include art classes, so she was delighted when one day her oldest brother returned home from college with newsprint and charcoal. She went on to pursue a career path in graphic design and fine arts. Now a full-time artist, Nancy experiments with vibrant colors and fluid forms to create her non-traditional, painterly landscapes. She enjoys working with oils, a medium that dries slowly and lends itself nicely to blending. Nancy strives to produce artwork that is, according to her, “quiet, yet bold.”
