Peter Hoffer
Guardian - large, green, blue, landscape, impressionist, acrylic, resin on panel

2014

About the Item

At 5 by 10 feet, this brilliantly executed landscape on panel has a luminosity and a depth rarely seen. The painting has many layers, and is finished in resin. The central figure of the tree dominates, but the painting is also captures many other intangible aspects of the landscape - the movement of the wind, the layers and accretions of time. This work has a custom frame with dark mocha stain and gold leaf. Framed dimensions are 66 x 126 inches. Hoffer's paintings can evoke nostalgia for romantic forms and periods. In his new work, he explores fashion and still life using trompe l'oeil imagery and vintage collage. Hoffer has exhibited widely at art fairs in Basel, Toronto, New York, Stockholm, London, Milan, Amsterdam and Hong Kong. His paintings are held in many private, corporate and public collections including the Musée des Beaux Arts, the Musée du Quèbec and the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery. Born in Brantford Ontario in 1965, Hoffer has a M.F.A. from Concordia University in Montréal, degrees from the University of Guelph, Ontario, and the Ontario College of Art in Toronto. He has lived and worked in Toronto, New York City, Montreal and now maintains a significant studio practice in Berlin, Germany.
