Peter van der Ploeg turns to landscape to find his subject matter. This is where he finds stillness, tension, loneliness or danger.
Human beings, whether actually present or not, are mostly the cause of the subdued tension. People and nature are entwined, eventually attaining a state of harmony together. He uses an almost photographic technique in order to achieve this result in his paintings.
'My paintings are all created on panel with acrylic paint. This quick-drying paint allows me to work in many, almost translucent layers. So I can work in minute detail, lending my work a realistic and photographic quality.'
