Raphaël Renaud is graduated from the Beaux-Arts de Paris, the artist was born in 1974 and lives and works between France and Berlin. His work has often been exhibited internationally, in Zurich, Cologne, Vienna, Berlin, Basel, Moscow and Miami, as well as in Paris, Lille and St Denis de la Réunion, in art galleries and international fairs.
"Between photographic inspiration and hyper-realism, Raphaël Renaud's paintings disturb the viewer's perception through their profusion, particularly in their city motifs. Their bright, cheerful brushstrokes give the form an abstraction that only hindsight allows us to apprehend as a meaningful whole. Notes of light and waltzes of colour come together in peaceful contemplation.
His oil paintings, on canvas or wood, are the result of an encounter with imagery: a chance encounter or the deliberate capture of an everyday snapshot, this photographic approach underpins her pictorial work. This approach is often reflected in the composition and choice of subjects, which could have been those of our own weekend photos, immersing us in the familiarity of familiar surroundings.
This approach gives rise to an intuitive work whose bright, colorful notes harmonize to form an immediately identifiable scene that, at first glance, might appear to have been painted according to the rules of hyperrealism. And yet, if you approach the image as closely as possible, you'll lose yourself between the touches of color that make it a work close to abstraction... At the junction of these apparent opposites, a transcription of the immediate sensation by a frank and spontaneous brushstroke takes us back to impressionist scenes, captured in a radiant nature or in the corner of a living room.
Their bright, vibrant colors, combined with the exploration of light in all its contrasts, sublimate the perception of a unique moment. Despite this profusion, Raphaël Renaud's works inspire calm and serenity. That of a hoped-for escape or of an everyday cocoon. In all cases, the overriding sensation is one of indescribable well-being, a well-deserved break from the inextricable tangle of images that accompany our daily anxieties. In contrast, the artist's project invites us to take a walk between the gallery walls, a stroll under the clouds or along the water's edge, in the reassuring shade of a protective interior or the corner of a library where the mind can travel in its turn...

In our era of diplomatic tensions, when Crimea and Russia appear regularly in the headlines, Gleiter feels a renewed appreciation for nature’s timelessness — for its inspiring capacity to rise above the ins-and-outs of man-made problems. Today, he says, “I often think about the history of an area where I am painting, about how many troubles and beautiful things may have happened there. Most importantly, I am humbled to observe how natural forces never stop moving.” Gleiter turns his searching eye not only to wilderness, but also to the banalities of urban life — to parked cars, the glinting sprawl of an automobile dealer’s lot, retail stores, and even cargo ships. There, too — as in his portraits, nudes, and still lifes — he manages to find abstracted beauty and emotional significance in the interactions of light, color, and air."
